The Point Loma Kelp Beds are only reachable by boat. There are several fine dive outfits that will get you out there for a 2 tank dive (see main San Diego page for more information). I recommend doing the morning dives
as the swells and waves pick up in the afternoon and I suggest sea sickness medication, especially if you're out on a small boat (it's the only place I've ever been sick). Also, visibility is usually a bit better in the morning and
there's less surge, but don't expect much better visibility than at La Jolla Cove and Shores.
In spite of the lower visibility compared to Coronado or Catalina Islands, there's plenty of sea life, and swimming through giant kelp beds is a unique experience. You'll be swimming among pinnacles and the terrain definitely
beats the Cove and the Shores, in my opinion. Feel free to check out the movies and judge for yourself.
